Guernsey In The Chanel Islands What A Great Place To Go On Holiday

By Steve Smith

I write this article whilst sat on the ferry after having visited Guernsey for the week with my folks.

I am sufficiently lucky to get spend quite some time on this wonderful small island with my work but it's only the second time that my family have come with me. We stayed in a friendly hotel in Guernsey named the Rocquettes which is located in the harbour and capital of Guernsey St Peter Port.

St Peter Port or town as the locals call it is the capital of Guernsey and is an excellent spot to stay when visiting the island with lots to see and do. It is totally full of old fashioned little shops and because the island is VAT free there are some great little bargains to be had.

There are some glorious restaurants in Guernsey that cater for all tastes and being a harbor the fish restaurants are especially good with a lot of fresh locally caught fish on the menu.

There are some great little bars on the island with lots of personality and some that serve great food including "The Swan Inn" in St Peter Port which is listed in the Michelin guide, or even the pub on the beach at Cobo Bay where you can watch the nightfall while enjoying your favorite.

The beaches on Guernsey are spectacular to say the least as are the cliff top walks with stunning views, and any person who likes to do a little bit of fishing could not go to a better place. I took my boy George and my Pa in law out on a fishing trip with one of the local fisherman and can't believe the number and range of fish that we caught. We even got the cook back at the hotel to prepare our evening meal with some of them.
